African American lacrosse players often speak of “imposter syndrome” to describe the perception that they are trying to play a “white sport.” This project examines the indigenous roots of lacrosse, and how the intermarriage between Native Americans and free or fugitive enslaved people resulted in Black lacrosse players playing generations earlier than traditionally documented.
