Nestled in the hills of Amenia, NY, Troutbeck has served as a beacon of the Civil Rights movement for many decades. Past owners, the Bentons and Spingarns, attracted many of the great minds of the era to Troutbeck for contemplation. Among them-Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, W.E.B. Dubois, and Theodore Roosevelt. In 1916 and 1933, Troutbeck played host to two NAACP meetings, later known as the Amenia Conferences.

Today, Troutbeck is frequented by guests all across the country. Some are looking to experience a bit of history and solitude, just as many have done before them. Others come to appreciate the natural beauty of the inn.

In April 2022, Troutbeck will host Troutbeck Symposium. An event to showcase student work on local black history across the Berkshire region.
